Hy-Vee Recalled Two of its Cream Cheese Products Because They Have a Possibility of Being Contaminated with Salmonella Bacteria

Hy-Vee Recall: The possibility of salmonella contamination has put everyone on notice. Here are some important details for you.

Hy-Vee, which is a supermarket chain, disclosed that it is recalling two types of cream cheese due to possible salmonella contamination, and its bulk-packaged Cookies & Cream snack mix too.

This was after Hy-vee received information from third-party manufacturers who said their products could be containing salmonella as reported by an announcement released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

What Hy-vee items does Salmonella affect?

These cream cheese spreads include 8 oz Hy-Vee whipped cream cheese spread with use by dates Aug 7 and Aug 14 and the 12 oz Hy-Vee Cream Cheese Spread with use-by date Sept.1.

Other than that, Hy-Vee also took back four ounces packs of to-go cookies and cream mix and sixteen ounces packages for certain use-by dates of the cookies & Cream Mix.

These two recalls are being made after two suppliers issued larger recalls for their products around the country. The candy item is related to the public Palmer Candy recall that occurred yesterday.

Which states had this Hy-vee contaminated cream cheese?

“The affected products were distributed through company-owned stores in eight states: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin through checkout lanes in all formats” according to FDA. In addition they stated nobody has become ill yet from these potential contaminants.

What are symptoms of Salmonella?

Salmonella is an organism that can cause life-threatening infections or even death among infants or young children or frail individuals especially those people having compromised immune systems according to a description found on FDA’s website. While healthy individuals infected with salmonella often suffer fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.”

Hy-Vee has taken these specific products off its shelves voluntarily. Any buyer of the product needs to destroy it or give it back to any nearby Hy-Vee store for a full refund.
